About the Event

ICC and Barrett Bookstore warmly welcome author and screenwriter Sharbari Zohra Ahmed in conversation with Nalini Jones to discuss her latest short story collection, The Strangest of Fruits, a darkly funny collection of magical realism that reimagines the Bangladeshi-American immigrant experience. Edwidge Danticat says this "stunning and remarkable collection is as emotionally resonant as it is unforgettable."


Ahmed, an award-winning author and screenwriter, was on the writing team of Quantico. Her screen adaptation of Rickshaw Girl won several awards and her adaptation of her stage play, Raisins not Virgins: A Romantic Comedy about Jihad, was nominated for best original screenplay at the Tribeca Film Festival. Ahmed is the author of Dust Under Her Feet, a historical novel set in Calcutta during WWII and a short story collection, The Ocean of Mrs. Nagai.  Her short fiction has appeared in numerous reviews and magazines.
