About the Event

Widely regarded as one of Satyajit Ray’s finest films, the 1958 classic The Music Room (Jalsaghar) is a profound portrait of a fading aristocratic world. The Music Room's extraordinary music, composed by legendary sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan, is a masterpiece —melding the emotional depth of Indian classical ragas with cinematic orchestration to create a soundscape of beauty and tragic grandeur.
Following the screening, Ustad Vilayat Khan's son, Ustad Hidayat Khan, will offer personal insights into his father’s music and its enduring legacy. The evening will conclude with a 30-minute performance sitar and tabla performance.
