About the Event

International best-selling author, Alka Joshi, is coming to ICC and New Canaan Library to talk about her latest book Six Days in Bombay. Inspired by the mysterious death of the Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil, Six Days in Bombay is a sweeping historical novel that takes the reader to Prague, Paris, Florence, and London during the 1930's.

Joshi explores the concept of identity through the main character, Sona, a young Anglo-Indian nurse as well as through Amrita Sher-Gil through the fictional character, Mira Novak. “Paying tribute to her in this novel is also my way of reclaiming my Indian identity,” says Joshi.

Joshi will talk about what motivated her to reimagine the story of Amrita Sher-Gil and her extensive research to capture the European cities as they were in Sher-Gil's time.
